Christmas Roast

Born in 1990 with cystic fibrosis, Rob's health deteriorated until his lungs repeatedly collapsed, leaving him dependent on oxygen. On 22nd June 2019 - his 29th birthday - he received a double lung and liver transplant. Recovery brought months in hospital and further complications. Five years later, on his birthday, he spent a week in a coma with multiple organ failure. 

With the support of his medical team, family and community, he gradually rebuilt his strength. Returning to work at The Old Barracks gave him confidence and the flexibility to continue his rehabilitation and training. 

On 22nd June 2026, exactly seven years after his transplant, Rob represented Ireland at the European Transplant Games - winning three gold medals in swimming. 

Now he is training at least five days a week for the World Transplant Games in Leuven, Belgium, in 2027. Gym and pool fees, personal training, equipment and travel are all self-funded.
