So you have invested in a brand-new Sage machine.
Here are a few tips to ensure you get the most from your new machine.
Like all machinery, these need to be serviced regularly the first reason is to ensure you get a great-tasting coffee and the second will prolong the life of your machine.
TO DO THIS, WE ASK YOU TO FOLLOW A COUPLE OF STEPS TO MAINTAIN YOUR MACHINE.
THE FIRST WHEN OPENING THE BOX IS:
- Keep your receipt and box where possible as your serial number is on the box.
- Register your machine to start your warranty.
- Every Wednesday you can take part in Sage master class through Eventbrite.
- You should only use filtered water, to avoid limescale build-up.

There are two important things here
1. The first is to purge before and after each shot, this means running some hot water through the group head. This will remove any grinds of coffee which could cause a bitter flavour in your espresso.
2. Then once a week you should backwash- to do this you should use the blind filter included in the box. All you will need to do is insert this into the portafilter and then run a shot. The water will go straight to the drip tray.

Prior to texturing milk, you should purge the wand until you get a consistent flow of steam. After texturing your milk, you should immediately wipe the wand, for hygiene reasons, this should be a separate cloth and then purge once again.
The exception to this would be The Oracle and Oracle Touch as they have an automatic purge after texturing milk, but you will still need to wipe immediately afterwards.
Once a week you should leave the steam wand to sit in a solution or even boiling water. You should also remove the tip, allow it to soak and if needed poke the holes should there be a build-up of milk. You will find a tool included in the box for this.

You will find included one water filter in the box, the cleaner the water the cleaner the coffee. The filters have a 3-month lifespan, but depending on the water may need to be changed more regularly.
We would also recommend descaling regularly, your water hardness will depend on how often this should be done. Which is why we recommend using filtered/bottled water. The machine normally will prompt to de descaled after 250 cups. Add your chosen descaler and fill your water tank to the descale line and follow the instructions. Always ensure to run plain water through after to ensure no residual product is left.
Will need to be cleaned less often, we recommend doing this every few months or if you are changing beans.
To do this you will need to remove the hopper, you can either use the brush which you will find in the box or a hoover. It will remove any build-up or stale beans.
Once cleaning is completed, return hopper to grinder and you are good to go.
